VALUE CHECK - JUNE 25, 2003

The investment business is fraught with extreme seasonality.  There are busy periods such as a week or two after New Years and Labour Day as investment managers set out revitalized strategies for new quarters.  There are also very slow times such as the Christmas holidays, Easter, the July-August summer break and the Friday before a long holiday weekend.

As investors, it is important to be aware of such occasions and to take advantage of the opportunities that seasonality brings.  For instance, with the "slow" summer holidays approaching, we believe, this is an excellent time to discard investment non-performers and to do serious investment research and analysis during this non-frenetic period.
