| It is almost one month into the New Year and stock market
prices and trading remain very volatile and capricious. Of particular note
is the constant market rotation from one particular industry which may be in
vogue for a week or two to another new sector. The 2001 investor remains
indecisive and whimsical. In consequence, stock market rotation is rampant
and vicious. But these group rotations to and from, say, high tech and
biotech to oil and gas, retailers or banks and back again can, in fact, present
opportunities. Within this constant switching toward the investment
flavour of the week certain stocks will be overly bid up or excessively sold
down to advantageous price levels. Ultimately the astute and opportunistic
investor who is paying attention can be the fortuitous beneficiary. |
